The Garden at Wests Ashfield Leagues Introduces Farm to Plate Pizza
I recently attended a Pizza Masterclass at The Garden, Wests Ashfield Leagues along with other Sydney foodie bloggers and Instagrammers. This delightful farm-to-fork venue has launched of a new menu featuring an expanded set of classic pizzas and gourmet collection.

A few of us were given a lesson in handing dough which is created from one of Sydney’s only in-house flour mills. Our instructor was Joseph Abboud, who has been perfecting the art of pizza for almost ten years. We even tried throwing it in the air, and I managed to do it without it landing on my head! I only tried once, I wasn't prepared to take a second chance! Once we made our pizza bases, without using a rolling pin, it was time to top with the best local and seasonal produce. I opted for buffalo cheese, sliced potato and rosemary for mine.
After the Masterclass it was time to enjoy some pizzas (not the ones we made as we took those home).
On the menu are house favourites such as ‘Aussie prawns’, and the more adventurous ‘Vegetarian calzone’, a folded pizza base stuffed with mozzarella, ricotta, roasted pumpkin and walnuts. For the meat lovers try the ‘Meat calzone’ including ham, salami, Spanish onion, The Garden tomato sauce & buffalo mozzarella.
Everything is done by hand at The Garden including milling their own flour, which is a painstaking process. The fresh flour that goes into the dough is packed with nutrients and doesn’t leave a lasting bloating that other bases can cause.
The Pizza's are made with The Garden’s house-made tomato sauce is made with sun-ripened tomatoes, garlic and olive oil. Following a generous helping of seasonal toppings including house cured meats and fresh cheese, the pizzas are hand delivered into the wood-fired oven, which cooks the pizzas fast and brings all the flavours together.
For dessert you can order the visually theatrical melting ‘Chocolate sphere’ filled with seasonal fruit compote, chocolate mousse, mint sorbet and milk chocolate sauce that envelops the dish at the table, sure to be dubbed one of Australia’s most ‘Instagrammable’ desserts, created by Chef Matthew Abbott-Williams.
In an effort to satisfy both big and little appetites The Garden has also launched “Kids Tuesdays” featuring entertainment from Kozi & Pinky, balloon animals, face-painting and free ice-cream with every kid’s meal, compiled from The Garden’s signature nutritious produce.
The new menu will be available from mid-March. For more information, bookings and the full menu visit thegardenwests.com.au
